A History & Analysis of 173 Engagements |
Fred
Eugene Ray (1949-) was born and grew up in Omaha, NE. In 1972, he graduated with
a B.S. in geology from the University of Nebraska, minoring in mathematics,
chemistry and English. He went on to graduate studies at the University of
Oklahoma and, in 1975, began a very rewarding career in the petroleum business,
working first as an exploration geologist and then as a manager and executive on
domestic and international operations. He retired from Occidental Petroleum in
2001 after serving that corporation as its worldwide Director of Exploration.
Since then, he has pursued a lifelong interest in studying ancient Greek combat.
Writing from his home in Bakersfield, CA, he seeks to combine the interpretive
techniques of physical science with a wide array of data from both classical and
modern literature toward exploring the practical realities of warfare in ancient
Greece.
